Tebuireng.online— The Musabaqah Syarhil Qur’an (MSQ) “Amatsil Tebuireng” team consisting of three students, Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng, succeeded in making a brilliant achievement by winning third place in two different competitions in just two days.
On November 14 2025, they won third place in the MSQ Competition for students throughout East Java at the 2025 Faculty of Adab and Humanities Anniversary event at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The day after, November 15 2025, they again won third place in the national level MSQ Competition at the Al-Qur’an and Hadith Olympiad by the Ma’had Al-Jami’ah Darul Hikmah Center of UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri.
The “Amatsil Tebuireng” team consists of Muhammad Khaidar Ali (3rd Semester, from Songgat Hamlet, Gampingrowo, Tarik, Sidoarjo), Fadlilah Sya’ban Nugraha (3rd Semester, from Ciputat Village, Cikangkung, Ciracap, Sukabumi), and Ilham Arifin (3rd Semester, from Sumbermanik Hamlet, Jatiganggong, Perak, Jombang). The three of them have different backgrounds but have the same goal in the art of Qur’anic syarhil.

Khaidar told about the beginning of the formation of this team. “At first I just wanted to take part in the MSQ competition for fun when I just entered Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari. At that time, I accidentally shared Kang Ilham Arifin’s experience. It turned out that Kang Ilham had performed Syarhil Qur’an, so I just had to look for his qori’ again,” he said.

He added that his meeting with Fadlilah’s melodious voice when he was appointed as qori’ at an event was the starting point for the team to be formed. “As a result, I tried to invite him to form a team and thank God he wanted to. From there we formed the MSQ TEAM with the name ‘Amatsil Tebuireng’.”
In composing a narrative, the process is often dynamic. Khaidar explained, “In terms of thinking, the three of us are often different. Usually one of us creates the text first, then we discuss it together. Before creating the narrative, we have prepared literacy materials for discussion to determine the content to be conveyed.”

Their preparations for these two big events were very short. “We prepared for about a week. Starting from writing texts, memorizing them, continuing to form chemistry. Every morning we always get together even though we are busy,” explained Khaidar.

This was reinforced by Fadlilah who said, “We never take as long to prepare like other people. It’s always tight because we each have our own busy schedules, and in fact the short time requires us to focus.”
Another challenge arose as they adapted the theme and materials. Fadlilah said, “When adjusting the material, interpretation, how to make it harmonious and connected to the theme.” He also admitted that he was proud of the results achieved. “Of course we are happy to be able to carry the name of the campus and Islamic boarding school.”
Ilham added that the theme they raised in this competition was related to current issues. “Of course, the themes that are still hotly discussed by the public, one of which is related to the public’s sensitivity to the NU Islamic Boarding School and the way of preaching to the riots that occurred recently,” he said.
Even though he won two championships in two consecutive days, Ilham admitted that the process was not easy. “Honestly, it’s very tiring but exciting. The challenge is solidarity. If that wasn’t there it would be very difficult.” He explained that the two competitions had different conditions so they had to work extra.
“In the first event the theme had to be different between the preliminary and final rounds. In the second event the duration was extended from 15 minutes to 20 minutes. Finally we remade the old text and continued to create a new text. Time was tight, until one of us objected and there was a role change.”

Closing his statement, Ilham conveyed the team’s hopes for the future. “Certainly this is our starting point to continue to increase our potential. Hopefully the future will be even better and more solid.”
In a short time, the “Amatsil Tebuireng” team proved that commitment, unity and strong determination can lead them to proud achievements, as well as making the name of Ma’had Aly Tebuireng and the campus proud on the regional and national stage.
