Tebuireng Arrival of Hadhramaut Ulama, Reveals Kiai Hasyim Asy’ari’s Scientific Relationship with Mufti Al-Habib Husain Al-Habsyi

Tebuireng.online- Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School was honored by the visit of a prominent cleric from Hadhramaut, Yemen, Al Habib Muhammad bin Al Munsib Ali bin Abdul Qadir Al Habsyi, on Monday (03/11/2025). This visit aims to strengthen the scientific and kinship relations between Hadhramaut ulama and Indonesian ulama which have existed for a long time. In attendance was the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School Caretaker KH. Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, the asatidz, and all the students of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School.

This visit has deep historical significance. As explained by Fathan Mubina, one of Al Habib Muhammad’s students, “As is known, Hadratussyaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy’ari, the founder of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, had a scientific relationship with Mufti Al Habib Husain Al Habsyi, who was his teacher when studying in Mecca. Mufti Al Habib Husain Al Habsyi himself was the brother of Al Habib Muhammad bin Al Munsib’s grandfather, namely Al Imam Ali Al Habsyi, the great scholar of Hadhramaut who during the time of Shaykh Hasyim Asy’ari became Mufti in the region. Through this visit, Al Habib Muhammad bin Al Munsib Al Habsyi intends to strengthen the ties of spiritual and scientific relations between the two major ulema axes: Hadhramaut and the Archipelago, as well as reaffirming the commitment to spreading the message of Islam rahmatan lil ‘alamin in Indonesia,” said Fathan Mubina as His students were at the Ribathul Ilmi As Syarif Islamic Boarding School when interviewed.

In the mau’idzah (advice) delivered to the students, Al Habib Muhammad bin Al Munsib emphasized the importance of maintaining the sanctity of Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah, adhering to the Ash’ariyah manhaj in faith and Syafi’iyah in fiqh. He reminded that the faith of Muslims is currently being shaken by various ideas that seek to weaken faith.

“It takes individuals like you Tebuireng students to become shields and guardians of the faith of the people. “The phenomenon of students respecting teachers, such as kissing their hands or bowing their bodies, is not a form of worship, but rather a symbol of ta’dzim and respect for the inheritors of the Prophet’s knowledge,” he said.

He also reminded that the mindset that tries to destroy the values ​​of adab and Islamic scientific traditions is deliberately created to divide the people. Indonesia, according to him, is the spirit of sharia and the last stronghold of the world’s Muslim generation.

This hospitality activity ended with a visit to the grave of Masyaikh Tebuireng as a form of respect for the founders of the Islamic boarding school and the great ulama who had fought to uphold Islam in the country.
