Tebuireng Center New Student Guard

Tebuireng.online— Friday 16 October 2025 will be a historic day for the extended Tebuireng family. Ten new Tebuireng Center students set foot in Negeri Kinanah, and were warmly welcomed by their seniors in Cairo. This moment was an important milestone, because for the first time the Tebuireng Center held a welcoming event for new Al-Azhar University students with thorough preparation and a grander atmosphere than in previous years.

These new students are graduates who succeeded in entering Al-Azhar University in Cairo through independent pathways. As is known, there are several routes to enter this prestigious campus, either through scholarships or independent routes. This year, the Tebuireng Center recorded new history with the departure of ten students, all of whom graduated through the independent route after taking exams organized by PUSIBA (Center for Islamic and Arabic Language Studies). The departure process for new Tebuireng Center students this time involved collaboration with FISMABA (Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Santri and Student Association Forum). This organization has long been known to actively send students to Egypt every year.

“Thank God, this year Tebuireng was able to go with FISMABA. We sent ten new students, while FISMABA itself sent twelve students from Tambakberas,” said one of the accompanying committee members.

Even though the Tebuireng Center is not an institution that focuses on the field of mediators, the number of ten new students who departed this year is a major achievement. Previously, Tebuireng alumni who continued their studies at Al-Azhar usually went on their own, taking different paths, with varying experiences and struggles. Now, through the Tebuireng Center, that spirit of togetherness is starting to build.

Of the ten students who departed, one was an alumni of Trensains Tebuireng, four were from the Tebuireng Women’s Islamic Boarding School, and five were from the Tebuireng Men’s Islamic Boarding School.

This year’s spirit of departure seems to be an inspiration for the next generation. Ustadz David Sugiarto, S.Pd., M.Sc., as Deputy Head of Student Affairs at Madrasah Aliyah Salafiyah Syafi’iyah (MASS) Tebuireng who accompanied the trip to Egypt, expressed his optimism.

“This is just the beginning. I have noted that there are around thirty students from various Tebuireng units who intend to continue their studies at Al-Azhar next year. MASS Tebuireng will be the axis of departure for students to the Middle East,” he said.

Ustadz David added that this step was also a signal for Tebuireng Center Cairo to prepare itself as a mediator institution in the future. “Tebuireng seniors who are already in Cairo must be ready to welcome a new wave of students from Tebuireng. This is proof that Tebuireng is now opening its doors wider to continue its activities internationally,” he added.

Spiritual and Mental Assistance

On this first trip to Negeri Kinanah, the new students received direct assistance from Ustadz David. Apart from being an educator, he is also known as a professional hypnotherapist who has been invited by various government agencies and educational institutions, especially in Jombang. The assistance provided is not just administrative, but also includes mental and motivational development. Before departure, Ustadz David provided pre-study guidance for prospective students, accompanied the test and selection process, ensured smooth administration, and coordinated with the Tebuireng Center Cairo, the Tebuireng alumni student organization that already exists in Egypt.

One of the typical activities provided is hypnomotivation, namely an effort to strengthen mentally and spiritually so that new students are ready to face the challenges of life in overseas countries.

“Studying at Al-Azhar is not just about academics, but also a spiritual journey. We want them to be ready to face challenges, both in terms of language, culture and independence,” said Ustadz David.

The arrival of these ten new students is a symbol of new hope for Tebuireng. From Jombang to Cairo, from Islamic boarding school to the center of world knowledge, this journey marks a new chapter in Tebuireng’s involvement in the global education arena. Now, Tebuireng Center Cairo is expected to become a second home for Tebuireng students in Egypt, a place to share, learn and maintain the spirit of Islamic boarding schools in overseas lands.

This small step may be just the beginning, but from these ten new students, a big trail will begin. As Ustadz David said in closing the conversation, “Tebuireng has long given birth to national scholars and thinkers. Now is the time for Tebuireng students to step onto the world stage.”

Of the ten new students, 1 of them is a Trensains alumni, 4 are alumni of the Tebuireng Putri Islamic boarding school, and 5 are alumni of the Tebuireng Putra Islamic boarding school. “This is just the beginning, I have noted that for prospective new students next year who want to study at Al-Azhar, approximately 30 students come from various Tebuireng units. And Madrasah Aliyah Salafiyah Syafiiyah Tebuireng is the axis for sending students to the Middle East,” said Ustadz David.

This discussion leads to the Tebuireng Center Cairo which in the future must be ready to become a mediator. At the very least, Tebuireng’s seniors in Cairo should be able to catch the signal that Tebuireng is starting to open its doors wide for its students to continue their studies in the Middle East.

Followed by the agenda of a pilgrimage to the grandson of the Prophet, namely Sayyidina Al-Husain, while enjoying the tranquility of worshiping in the Al-Azhar mosque.

On the fourth day of his stay in Egypt, he traced ancient Egyptian civilization by visiting the pyramids in the Giza area and visiting National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. It didn’t end there, his agenda continued by attending the ROSHO (Rotib and Sholawat) Majlis at the Tebuireng Center secretariat as well as providing hypnomotivational material as a form of mental strengthening for Al-Azhar University Alumni Tebuireng Raya students.

Arriving on the fifth day, to be precise on Tuesday 21 October 2025, he held an outreach with the Tebuireng Center management body to discuss cooperation between the Tebuireng Center Cairo and the central Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. After finishing attending a meeting with the Tebuireng Center governing body at a cafe in the area DarrasaHe closed his agenda by visiting a typical Egyptian souvenir center called the market Khan El-Kholili which was next to the Sayyidina Al-Husain Mosque complex before leaving for Indonesia the next day.

The meeting was also a signal for the Tebuireng Center in the future to be ready to guard the increasing number of new students every year. Apart from that, the existing synergy with central Tebuireng is of course expected to increase. This moment should be grateful for the presence of Ustadz David who visited Egypt with the new students, so that we can bring more direction to the future of us Tebuireng alumni in Egypt. Cheers!
