Prof. Maskuri Bakri Reveals the Strategic Mission and Series of Events for the 1st Century of NU

Tebuireng.online— Commemorating the historic momentum of a century of the founding of Nahdlatul Ulama (1926–2026), the East Java Regional Management of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) officially held Start Celebrate the 1st Century of NU and Islamic Boarding School and Nationality Workshop. This activity was centered at the Islamic University of Malang (UNISMA) on Wednesday (7/1/2026).

Chairman of the NU Centenary Celebration Committee, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri Bakri, M.Si., in his speech said that the selection of UNISMA as the location for the event had gone through careful consideration and received the blessing of PWNU East Java.

“UNISMA was chosen because it is the largest Nahdlatul Ulama university in Indonesia,” said Prof. Maskuri.

He explained that the implementation of the 1st Century NU Harlah was based on East Java PWNU Decree Number 746/XII/2025 dated December 24 2025. This activity carried the theme “Strengthening Jam’iyyah, Tradition, Contribution and Developing Civilization.”

The General Chair of the IKAPETE National Presidium also revealed that the 1st Century NU has five strategic missions, namely:

1. Developing competence and exposing NU resources to strengthen service to the nation and state.
2. Increasing understanding of Islamic boarding school culture and the spirit of struggle of the community and NU members in supporting the realization of Golden Indonesia 2045.
3. Making culture a means of da’wah and a real form of devotion to religion and social life.
4. Strengthening national commitment as the basis for establishing the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
5. Caring for the traditions and spirituality of the congregation as NU’s capital in facing global challenges.

One of the main agendas in this series of activities is the Islamic Boarding School and Nationality Workshop. The workshop raised the philosophy of Islamic boarding schools as fertile gardens where the seeds of ulama can grow.

“The seeds of these ulama were fertilized with the water of knowledge and the light of piety. So far, they have been the main support for the upholding of the nation and the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Prof. Maskuri.

Furthermore, he said that the commemoration of the 1st Century of NU would be filled with 13 series of events taking place from January 24 to February 8 2026.

Around 1,000 invited guests are scheduled to attend as a form of joint commitment to making the NU Centenary commemoration a success. Present at this activity included Rais Syuriyah PWNU East Java KH Anwar Mansur, Katib Syuriyah, Tanfidziyah PWNU East Java officials, kiai, nyai and gus from various Islamic boarding schools, Deputy Governor of East Java, Chair of the East Java DPRD, East Java Regional Police Chief, East Java Forkopimda staff, Mayor of Malang, Chair of the Malang City DPRD, as well as all Chairs of PCNU throughout East Java.
