Emphasize the cleanliness of the heart and the environment, the Tebuireng Garbage Bank Holds Waste Education

Tebuireng.online- The Tebuireng Garbage Bank (BST) held a Waste Education and Environmental Cleanliness event which was attended by all the leaders of the Pesantren and Trustees of Tebuireng Santri on Tuesday (8/26/2025). This event aims to instill awareness about cleanliness early on and integrate religious values ​​with environmental care.

The event, which is located in the BST education zone, was attended by BST Director Ahmad Faozan, wife of the caregiver of Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School Mrs. Nyai Hj. Lelly Lailiyah, H. Lukman Hakim, Head of Trensains Ustadz Arif, and Deputy Head of Trensains Ustadz Afif. They alternately convey the importance of protecting a clean and healthy environment.

Haji Lukman stressed that cleanliness must start from himself. “Clean the heart, clean the soul, and create environmental comfort,” he said. He also added that any program would be difficult to realize if it was not started with a concrete example of the implementers.

In line with that, Nyai Leli Laylia Hakim highlighted the importance of character education in pesantren. According to him, the cottage is the second home, where students learn not only from theory, but also from the example they see. “Clean the room, clean the environment, everything must start from us,” he explained. He hopes that clean habits will become a pesantren culture, although initially starting from compulsion.

As a motivation, this event also planned various cleaning competitions to be held in each pesantren unit. These competitions include making trash cans, room cleanliness, logo design, and environmental themes.

BST Director, Ahmad Faozan, expressed challenges in processing waste, especially cloth waste. At present, BST has sorted out some of the pads waste to be planted, but technology for processing cloth waste is still limited. In the future, they try to turn the garbage into handicrafts. Collaboration between my interests is also emphasized as the key to the success of this program.

Through this educational program, Tebuireng shows a positive response to environmental issues, inviting coaches and santri to practice the hygiene of the heart, self, and the environment. This program is expected to make cleanliness as a lifestyle that is in harmony with the basic principles of Tebuireng.
