Tebuireng.online- Mudir Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng, Dr. KH. Ahmad Roziqi, Lc., MHI, gave an in-depth speech at the National Santri Day Reflection activity with the theme “Strengthening the Morality of Islamic Boarding Schools in the Midst of a Crisis of Trust and Challenges of the Times” with speaker Dr. Mohamad Anang Firdaus, M.Pd.I., and Ning Ema Rahmawati, S.Fil., MA. The event, which coincided with Youth Pledge Day, was held in the 1st Floor Hall of Ma’had Aly on Tuesday, October 28 2025, and was attended by all lecturers, asatidz, and mahasantri.

In his speech, KH. Ahmad Roziqi reaffirmed his identity as a santri. According to him, “A person who is called a santri is someone who follows the teachings of kiai and ulama.”

To truly emulate the kiai, he continued, a santri must know the path of the ulama, remember their advice, and understand how they struggle to gain knowledge, worship, and serve in society. True students are required to be moral examples, remember advice, and understand the struggle of ulama as heirs of the prophets.

He expressed his appreciation for holding this reflection, which was considered very important to raise the enthusiasm of the mahasantri as future ulama cadre candidates. He reminded that humans’ main enemy is not other people, but stupidity.

KH. Ahmad Roziqi also touched on the central role of santri in the history of the nation’s independence. “Who fought for this nation’s independence if not the Islamic boarding school students? “Who will fight and overthrow the invaders if not the Islamic boarding school students who were forged in the boarding houses?” he asked enthusiastically. This statement is a reminder for students not to forget the history of the struggle of students as the nation’s moral and intellectual strength.

At the end of his speech, Mudir advised all students to show noble character and brilliant achievements on the national and international stage. According to him, morals and achievement are two things that will maintain the dignity of Islamic boarding schools amidst the challenges of the times.

“Show your morals, show your achievements in this beloved country,” he stressed.

He closed with a reflective message, “Never forget the services of previous ulama and santri who have fought for the independence of this nation. They are warriors who may have been forgotten, but the traces of their struggle will always be a light for future generations.” This speech was greeted with loud applause and feelings of emotion from all those present.
