From stage to stage | Tebuireng Online

A Portrait of MC in Formal Events (Photo: Committee)

I like to appear. Staring at the audience always gives its own sensation. Although sometimes nervous and heart beats fast, that’s where the challenges, and I like that challenge.

Since kindergarten, my parents have accustomed me to appear on the stage. They hope I can be a lecturer, like my late uncle who has been preaching on television. Failed to be my best friend; Losing in the lecture competition is also normal for me. Even when trying to take part in the singing song competition, the results are the same, lose.

Entering high school, I’m still consistent in the world of da’wah. Not only that, teachers entrust me to become an MC in various important school events. However, the trip was not easy. Once I cried because I was scolded by the teacher.

He said, Tempo reading my MC manuscript was not right, even though I had practiced many times in front of the glass. Criticism, ridicule, even the anger of teachers I often accept. Sometimes I’m upset, but I realize, the path to success is never straight and smooth. Precisely the incline, turn, and twists and turns are what makes the trip meaningful.

After high school, I continued my studies. At first I was inferior, feeling I couldn’t do anything. But I tried to find experience by joining organizations in the study program. From there I began to develop. I am often trusted to be an MC at important events, even at national competition events. Secretly I kept the desire to be an MC at the campus graduation ceremony. Even though it sounds impossible, that desire is still there.

Over time, my name is increasingly known among students and lecturers.

“Eh, you are the one who often becomes the MC, right? What’s the name?” asked a lecturer I experienced.

“My name is Afifah, ma’am,” I replied.

“Yes, Afifah. For MC, you are very good. Your voice is great,” he said with a smile.

Praise made me even more excited. Not long after, I was trusted to be a moderator in a faculty event. It was my first experience as a moderator on campus. Many people know me only from the stage, even though I myself have difficulty remembering their names one by one.

Until finally, a memorable experience came. My friend invited me to join the MC selection for the faculty judicial event. At first I was hesitant, but out of curiosity, I tried. Lecturers who will train us to tell us that the selection is done that afternoon. I was pounding, between happy and insecure.

“Assalamualaikum,” I said when entering the lecturer’s room.

“Waalaikumsalam. Sit first, yes. We are waiting for other participants. If no one comes, it means that you guys chose to be an MC in the Judicium,” answered the lecturer.

Sure enough, no other participants were present besides me and my friends. Finally, we were officially selected as the MC of the Judicium event. It is not a campus graduation, because usually MC graduation is a lecturer. But to me, this is an answer to my prayers.

We practice seriously. Even I am willing not to eat fried foods, ice, and other foods that can make a hoarse throat, even though I really like it. All for the best appearance. I believe, effort will not betray the results.

When D -day arrived, we performed in a loud, clear, and confident voice. Our appearance is proud of the lecturer and makes me grateful. I realized, every challenge and struggle finally brought sweet results.

Even though I was MC at the Judicium event, but I was very happy because what was my desire to be realized by God, this was the thing that became the experience and purchase to me. My friend and I practice very seriously. By not eating fried foods, ice, and others that trigger the throat to be hoarse. Very difficult it turns out, because I really like the food.

But there is no attempt to betray the results, I believe that the business that my friend and I will produce satisfying results. And sure enough, when appearing to be an MC at the Judicium event, our voices were very good and proud of the lecturer ladies and gentlemen.
